This mid-century chair has been re-imagined and reupholstered as a stunning one-of -a kind statement piece. The new picture back (in place of the original caned back) features a vintage silk and velvet scarf adorned with hand-sewn bead-work depicting birds on branches with blue and teal leaves and bright red blossoms. The chair frame is detailed and heavy, weighing in at almost 20 pounds, and is very well constructed. I often employ surprising textile combinations in my work to create a unique look and feel. The back and seat on the front side of the chair are covered in a luminous tight weave mesh laid over white canvas on the back and vanilla colored velvet on the seat. Both back and seat are well cushioned and comfortable. I have painted the frame in a combination of peacock, coastal blue, vanilla white and silver to compliment the upholstery. I made the welt cord trim around the seat and back from medium weight upholstery fabric with coordinating colors but a contrasting background (white on the trim, vs. blue background on the seat and back) for added visual interest.

This is a vintage chair frame from the 1960's, so there is minor wear to the wood here and there as one would expect - which adds to the character of the piece. However, the frame has been freshly repainted as mentioned above, and has been finished with hand-rubbed polyurethane to enhance depth of color and to protect the finish. The lovely vintage scarf used for the picture back is in pristine condition. The fabric on the front bears some minor natural variance in the dye which appears as a few faint white horizontal lines - one on the seat back and two on the seat. less
