The Laundry List of Details...
Utterly charming! The beautiful wood grain, depth of color, and square spindle back design of this petite antique oak nursing/sewing rocker caught my eye immediately. Sturdy, despite its small stature, it can easily accommodate the weight of a 150 lb. adult. The seat is 13 inches wide at its narrowest point (at the back), fanning to 15 inches wide at the front. Given the rather low and narrow seat, this rocker is a nice size for a child or a petite woman. It is perfectly comfortable for me at 5'2'' and 140 lbs. This rocking chair is so lovely, but it does bear a few signs of its age and history. The top rails were repaired, at some point in the past, with nails on both sides. I bolstered the repairs at those joints with wooden dowel pegs and hide glue. Also, at some time in the distant past, the forward joint on the right rocking rail was tightened with a flat head screw. The screw is sunken and poses no threat of scratching the floor and the joint is tight and secure.
